William (Tom) Crews passed away on September 25, 2023 at Nanaimo General Hospital. Tom was born July 19, 1930 in Charleston, W. Virginia to Archie and Violet (Harper) Crews. He spent many happy childhood years on a small farm with sisters Patricia and Jeanette, both now deceased. Tom attended Andrew Jackson High School in Charleston. His early years saw him in the military and raising a family.
Tom became a draftsman for Hewlett-Packard in California. At Lake Shasta he owned and ran a small restaurant with 2nd wife, Christina, before immigrating to Vancouver Island in 1978. There he worked at the Dominion Observatory in Saanich, then selling cars and eventually turning to his love of gardening by working for seniors in Victoria. Another six years was spent travelling N. America in a fifth wheel before settling in Ladysmith in 2001, where he joined the Wednesday Senior Bowling League to enjoy many hours of fun with avid fellow bowlers.
Tom was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
In retirement Tom spent hours in his garden along with building birdhouses in his shed.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Christina, who shared the last 53 years with him and will remember all the kindness that Tom shared with the world around him.
He is survived by his children: Derek (Carolyn), Cherie, Philip (Sue), and Curtis (Linda). He was predeceased by his daughter Belinda. He is survived by his grandchildren: Paula, Melissa, Aaron, (lil) Cherie and Curt.
In memory of Tom, donations to the BCSPCA would be gratefully appreciated.
