With his family lovingly by his side, William (Bill) John Mork, age 87, passed peacefully from this world on June 21, 2025.
Born in Cleeves, Saskatchewan, on January 2, 1938, to Laurel and Ethel Mork, Bill lived a rich and spirited life defined by hard work, creativity, generosity, and deep love for his family.
Bill began his professional journey in the grocery business with OK Economy and quickly made a name for himself, becoming the youngest store manager in Prince Albert, SK. It was there he and Donna Wilcox raised their family. A true entrepreneur at heart, Bill went on to own and operate several ventures over the years, including Zip Clean Car Wash and Gas Bar, a turf farm, a fly-in fishing camp, and most memorably, Homestead Ice Cream and Snack in Saskatoon, SK. Homestead achieved a record-breaking milestone, serving over 3,200 customers in a single day—a testament to his business acumen and the community’s affection for him.
Bill’s talents and passions were as abundant as they were diverse. He was an avid fisherman, gifted storyteller, and enthusiastic trick waterskier. He square danced, polkaed, skied, golfed, boated, camped, played the accordion, and enjoyed hunting, gardening, baking, woodworking, and bird watching. A natural tinkerer and "Mr. Fix-It," he enjoyed building wooden model boats and lovingly restored his prized 1928 Chevrolet, affectionately named "Lizzy."
Above all, Bill was a remarkably talented artist, best known for his detailed pencil drawings. His work was collected by many admirers and featured in a Calgary art gallery, a highlight of his creative journey.
Bill will be remembered for his warm smile, sparkling blue eyes, captivating stories, sharp memory, gentle spirit, and unwavering positivity. But most of all, he will be remembered for the profound love he had for his family.
He was predeceased by his parents Laurel and Ethel Mork; brothers Len (Sharon) and Ralph (Jean); stepmother Lily; stepbrother Lynn; stepsister-in-law Nancy; stepbrother-in-law Kent; former in-laws Elmer and Margaret Wilcox; and his cherished special friend Gail Morgan.
Bill is survived by his four daughters: Yvonne (Jim) Mann, Lorri (Doug) Taylor, Susan (Leo) Morneau, and Michele (Dave) Mork; his grandchildren: Alicia, Josh, Daniel, Michael, Christopher, Hannah, Aimee, and Jack; and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his stepsisters Carol (Joe) and Wendy, stepbrother Larry, and the extended Morgan family—Ernie, Gayla, Cheryl and Barb—along with his “adopted” grandchildren Mackenzie, Nolan and Piper. Bill is also remembered by his many nieces and nephews.
Bill leaves behind a wide circle of dear friends. His legacy of kindness, laughter, and creativity will continue to live on in all who knew and loved him. A celebration of Bill’s life will be held in the Turtleford, Saskatchewan area in the summer of 2026. Details will be shared once finalized.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the dedicated medical team at North Cowichan District Hospital and to Barb Smith for her devoted care and friendship. As well, we extend gratitude to all staff at the Steeples Assisted Living residence where he was provided exceptional care.
May Bill rest in peace and in love—where the roses never fade.
“Take time to stand out in an open field, enjoy the breeze blowing in your hair, take time to listen to the birds and watch nature unfold.” — Bill Mork
