It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Walter “Walt” Jennings on November 12th, 2021 in Nanaimo BC at the age of 84. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile. Despite the illness, Walt came out a hero and stayed strong until the end.
Walt is survived by his partner, Bea and his 5 children: Dean (Ladda), Carla (Robert), Tracie, Todd (Tami) and Sue (Chris). He was a proud papa/grandpa to 9 grandchildren: Aaron, Taylor, Britney, Montana, Brendan, Taryn, Hailey, Ethan and Willem. He is also survived by his sister Alice-May MacDonald as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife Gloria, father, Walter Jennings (Sr.), his mother Alice Jennings, his sisters Phillis and Keen and his first born child, Brad.
Walt was born in Vancouver, BC on August 15th 1937. At a young age, his whole family moved to Vancouver Island. He grew up in Campbell River where he fell in love with fishing and went on to captain a commercial fishing boat of his own. Walt was a paper maker at the Crofton Pulp and Paper Mill, a corner store owner, a hockey coach and a vacation connoisseur.
One of Walt’s favourite pastimes was being with his family. He loved to support his kids and grandkids and would make sure to not miss a hockey game, lacrosse game, soccer game or dance recital. His warm smile and encouragement will be missed by so many.
