We thought the world of Terry from the moment we met. His masterpieces, his calm and gentle warmth were gifts to many. We treasure having him in our paths. Grateful for what he shared. Take care of yourself, Maureen; Terry would want you to heal. Thoughts are with you and your family. Julie and Ray

I am saddened to say I just came across this news about Terry. I am the proud owner of one of Terry's carving. It is of a grisly bear standing in the water, all in the shape of a table carved from one piece of wood. It had been shown in Terry's website. I had many discussions with Terry prior to him offering that carving for sale. I will always remember our discussions and prominently display his work in my den overlooking the water on the North Fork of long Island.

My deepest sympathy to you Maureen and your family. I just found out about this only moments ago. Terry taught me the art of chainsaw carving in 2005/2006 via the phone, email and fax. I so wish that I could have met him in person. He maybe the humblest person I have ever known. I have always felt such a deep debt of gratitude for what he taught me and not even asking for a dime to do it. He has certainly touched my heart and blessed me beyond my imagination. God certainly made this world a better place when he created Terry!!

Dear Maureen. As sure as there are stars in the sky I'd bet that Terry and Wayne are having an awesome reuntion. I treasure my memories. When you truly love someone and the time together has been so precious and wonderful, it is made even more difficult to lose them. You were blessed to have had the time you did with Terry but it will never be enough. Thank you for letting me know. You are in my prayers.

Terry was more than a mentor, he was a great friend; many great memories of time spent with you "guys"; never is a long time, however I believe that Terry will forever be in my heart. Together as friends we kicked butt, I mean that in a literal way, for one day at the shop we both had the idea to kick each other which ended up with he and I on the shop floor in excruciating pain laughing. Here's to you Terry.

Trudy, Royce, BJ, and Andrew,

Our deepest condolences for the loss of your father, father-in-law, and grandfather.

His love of the coast, forest, and wildlife really struck a chord with Gordon and I, who are drawn to the same, even if we have become landlocked far from the coast.

Next to our fireplace is a real treasure. It’s a paddle that Terry carved and adorned with a pair of whales. Dad and Debra asked Terry to make it for them, so that they could give it to us for a housewarming gift. Someday we’d like to take it back to the coast and dip it in the ocean there.

Our thoughts are with you all.

*********************************************
Maureen,

Our condolences for the loss of your husband.

I still remember as a kid when I found out that my uncle could fly a real plane. It was the “coolest” thing ever.

Terry’s free spirit remained a great inspiration to us all. He was admired by our whole family, even if from afar.

We regret that we never got to meet you; you must be one special lady.

Our thoughts are with you.

Terry became a wonderful friend and I always treasured the visits and conversations as I became in awe to the tremendous talents of this man. The breadth of his knowledge and life experiences was staggering.

I am so sorry for your loss and to the family my sincere condolences, Terry will be very much missed. There is a deep hole in the community and in the carving shop that was always filled with his friends, the wood burning stove and the art being created every day. Terry will be in my thoughts. All my best to all of Terry's family and friends.

When we were young children Terry and I would race around the Circle driveway at Grandpa and Grandma Shulers. He would make me think I was winning and then right before the end he would pass me. In my child's mind I thought he should not have let me think I was winning and then pass at the end.
So I would say, "No fair passing!"

Now I say it again, no fair passing!

We shall discuss it at the campfire when we have both passed.

What an enriched life I have had to have him for an older brother. How fortunate my children and grandchildren to have had him for an uncle. He used to do magic tricks for them and we made him a cape that said "Terry the Terrific" he has never lost that title.

I knew Terry for many years in Port Hardy and kept in touch with him off and on over the years, including a couple of visits to the carving site. The last one was with my daughter about 5 years ago. He was an interesting, multi-talented, charming man. I know he held strong spiritual beliefs that would have helped him on his path here in earth school. He is at peace now, and I suspect enjoying the journey (as I know my Mother is). Don Ewing and I said “goodbye” to Terry a couple of nights ago.

Terry
An amazing man whose departure is mourned by many here, and whose arrival is celebrated by the heavens. Although he will be greatly missed, he will forever live on in our hearts, minds and be remembered every time we drive by one of his carvings, see one of his friends/family, or how he touched each and every one of our lives. Guess they needed to either spruce (ceder) up the other side with some amazing art, or "God" needed a good camp fire talk. Rest in peace my dear friend/uncle i will see you again.

This is a tribute to my Amazing Uncle Terry Mckinnon who left lasting memories and always had words of wisdom to leave at the end of every conversation. He had talent beyond belief as he made giant sculptures out of trees, all with a chainsaw. His masterpieces are displayed all over the world, especially the interior BC as you enter many towns and cities. There will be many many people in mourning. Your legacy will live on forever. Love you Uncle Terry. 😘RIP❤

Dear Maureen,

I am so sorry for your loss. I didn't know Terry as much as I would have liked to but I thought about him often. He helped me through some tough family times and always had an email that often seemed to contain a touch of artistry in it. (so I felt)
He made a difference in myself and the lives of my children. They also, are pretty upset.
His bear stands watch at my doorway and each day I look at him.
Please let me know of there is anything I can do.

With heavy heart,
Your friend,

Rod.

He carved our eagle for us and then had full faith in people he had just met to send it over to us in their sailboat. Unfortunately, Herb and I won't be able to attend his Celebration of Life as Herb is 85 now and not in the best of health. We will certainly be thinking of Terry. With Love, Diane and Herb.=
