Sidney Gordon Fredericksen
March 17, 1943 – July 28, 2020
Sid loved life. Thoughts that come to mind: music, studying his Bible, debating issues, quiet time at home, getting together with a few close friends at a time. He loved many people. He remembered friends from way back and was always glad to see or hear of them.
Born in Hagensborg, a Norwegian settlement near Bella Coola on the coast of BC, he accompanied his father on the fishing boat in summer as a child. As a young adult he worked on his cousin’s ranch in the Chilcotin before joining the army together with his brother. He enjoyed being a gym instructor training soldiers who would fight in Viet Nam.
Later he spent many years as a tree faller in various parts of BC. For seven years he was a well-loved pastor in the Chilcotin and initiated the building of a beautiful little log church.
In his older years, living in Nanaimo, he worked as a Commissionaire, guarding the port.
As a youngster he rode horses; at 67 he took up motorcycling. He kept his guardian angels busy for 77 years, scraping through many close calls, but in the end it was pancreatic cancer that got him. Special thanks to Dr. Dodo, and to the palliative care team for their compassionate help.
Sid is already sorely missed by family and friends, and we look forward to reuniting with him in heaven.
