Rosemary FREED Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a remarkable woman, Rosemary Freed, who was born in Belfast on December 16th, 1943, to William and Francis Wylie, passed away peacefully on February 16th, 2023, ending a long battle caused by cancer, with her devoted husband Ron by her side.

Rosemary was a trailblazer in every sense of the word. At the tender age of 19, she bravely moved away from her hometown, leaving behind her family and everything she knew to start a new life in Canada.

A rare beauty both inside and out, it was a chance encounter that led her to meet her husband Ron in Vancouver, BC, before they settled in Kitimat to start a family.

Those who had the privilege of knowing her will agree that she was the best person they had ever met. She had an infectious energy that lit up any room she walked into. Her love, kindness, and patience were felt by all who crossed her path.

She was a storyteller at heart and always had a tale to share. This was especially evident when she spent time with grandchildren, regaling them with stories both from her amazing life and sometimes from thin air.

Rosemary faced many challenges in her life, but she never let them defeat her. She worked tirelessly to make a great life for her family, and her perseverance paid off. Working and travelling across the globe and in many unique cultures, she was respected by all for her intelligence and wisdom.

She was an entrepreneur at heart and owned her own accounting practice. She was also financially savvy and worked day and night to obtain her CGA designation, while working full time and managing a household and looking after three young children. She was the modern-day superwoman.

Her cooking skills were unmatched, and she could whip up a delicious meal out of nothing. Her creativity was always evident in her cross-stitch patterns which adorned the walls of her home and those of her family.

Rosemary was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend who touched the lives of everyone she met. Her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew her. Her legacy of strength, determination, and resilience will live on forever.

She is survived by her husband Ron Freed, sons Michael Freed and Steven Freed, daughter Yolande Dunbavin, grandchildren Justin McArdle, Rose Freed, Lillian Freed, Colten Freed, Andrew Dunbavin, and Krystina Dunbavin, her great grandson Wyatt McArdle, and her brothers Peter Wylie and Raymond Wylie.

Rest in peace, dear Rosemary. You will be missed but never forgotten.

A celebration of life ceremony will be held for Rosemary in the spring.
