Richard Bruce (Rick) Menzies RIP
It is with a saddened heart that we share the passing of Rick Menzies on Wednesday January 29, 2020. (10:45 PM)
Rick was a loving brother, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend to many. He was unique in his approach to living and was always true to himself and to others. A favourite quip of his was “You have to be tough if you want to stay!”
Born in Vancouver in August of 1949, he retired in Parksville after many years as an operating engineer, building roads throughout the interior and participating in building the Island Hwy. Rick got his heavy equipment ticket in the late 70’s and spent the next 35 years as King of the Roads, with a particular skill in accurately maintaining the slope and grade in the building of BC’s burgeoning highways.
Rick’s health deteriorated quickly after being diagnosed with cancer in mid-January. True to form, his wishes are to have a simple Ceremony of Life, with his ashes spread freely at his favourite spot, high above the water; to symbolize the freedom that he lived with every day. Plans for the Celebration of Life will be planned in the coming months.
