Richard Ralph JONES

It is with great sadness that we announce that Richard Ralph Jones, lifetime resident of Ladysmith, BC, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2023 at the age of 76.

Richard was the 3rd son born to James (Jim) and Isabel Jones on October 22, 1946.

Richard will be remembered enjoying his favourite activities such as fishing, hunting, playing darts, crib or throwing strikes bowling and over the years he played in several local leagues. From a young age, Richard could be found adventuring throughout the forest and could easily recite and navigate backroads to any destination. At home, he could be found watching baseball from his recliner as a true Cardinals fan or reading a Western novel.  Throughout his life, Richard took joy in caring for and maintaining his many vehicles. 

He was proud to have worked at the Nanaimo Daily Free Press in his younger years followed by a long career in automotive service, towing and as a taxi driver.  He met many people in these jobs and enjoyed interacting, helping people out and getting them back on the road.  In his earlier years, he also proudly served in the Ladysmith Volunteer Fire Department. 

Richard is survived by his children, Kevin Jones and Chelsea Jones; his grandson James (Jimmy) Jones; and many meaningful friends. 

He is predeceased by his Mother and Father as well as his brothers, Donald (Donny) Jones and Robert (Bob) Jones.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital for their care and compassion.

At his request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. We ask that in lieu of flowers, any donations please be sent to the SPCA in memory of Richard as he always loved dogs. 

We imagine him now having a great cruise in the five-window coupe he always dreamed of owning and the oldies music he loved playing loudly on the radio.  His memory will always be in our hearts.
