The Reverend Christopher John Stoker
(1940–2024)
Chris Stoker passed away peacefully on February 13th. He was a man of humility, gentleness and wisdom; qualities that came from his life-long commitment to the service he gave through listening and offering comfort to those in distress. Everyone who knew Chris was touched by his compassion and attentiveness. He was special to his family to whom he was devoted. He leaves behind his wife, Pearl, his daughter Astrid and her husband Roy, his son Phillip, sister Lyn and extended Family in the UK, NZ and Canada.
As someone who loved the sea, Chris was an avid sailor, and would go out in any kind of weather. An enthusiastic builder, Chris, along with Pearl, built three of the houses they lived in. He loved winter vacations in the sun.
Chris served as an Anglican Priest in Chemainus, Lake Cowichan and Ucluelet/Tofino. He would often say that the most meaningful years of his life were those during which he served as a Chaplain at Gorge Road Hospital. Chris was a light to the world, and he brought light wherever there was darkness. His faith consisted not of words or ideas, but of his love and care for everyone he met.
A funeral will be held at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, 5800 Church Road, Duncan at 2:00pm on Saturday, March 9, 2024.
