Reginald MILLER Obituary

Reginald Leroy Miller  August 21, 1950 – March 1, 2026

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Reginald (Reg) Miller, announces his passing, on March 1, 2026.

He is deeply loved and will be dearly missed by his wife, Jan; his sons, Ryan and Darren.

Predeceased by his mother Alwynne (1988) and father Leroy (2018). Reg is also survived by sisters Nancy (Lorne); Suzanne and several nieces and nephews.

A long time Nanaimo resident, Reg was well known for his love of classic cars, especially, his 1970 Hugger Orange SS Chevelle that he purchased new and proudly owned for 54 years.

In 1979, he married Jan and traded street racing for drift boat rowing. He was an avid steelhead fisherman who loved to drift the San Juan River with family and friends.

Reg was a devoted father who enjoyed taking his sons, Ryan and Darren to their hockey and baseball games. This included many weekend road trips for hockey and baseball tournaments.

Reg lived adjacent to Buttertubs Marsh for 45 years andwas a  member of the Buttertubs Marsh Liaison Committee. He played a key role in the organization of building, transporting and installing the osprey nesting tower at Buttertubs Marsh in October of 2003. Much to Reg’s delight a pair of Osprey eventually flirted with building a nest on the tower but sadly they disappeared never to appear again.

He worked at Harmac Pacific pulp mill for 30 years before retiring in 2008. In retirement he loved to garden and was especially proud of his front courtyard that fed and watered many a bird, including the rare Eastern Blue Jay that arrived in the fall of 2023 providing great joy to the local and distant bird photographers.

Reg led a group of seven hikers, nicknamed the “Magnificent Seven” on many trails throughout Vancouver Island. He loved exploring new paths and guiding the group, never losing his way.

He also loved to cycle on the Island bike trails. He usually finished a ride with a beer and a burger at a local pub determined to find and rate the best burger on the Island.

Most of all he cherished his biannual trips to Mexico often sporting the darkest tan on the beach.

His quiet strength, steadfast and solid manner touched all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and acquaintances.

There will be no service in accordance to his wishes.
