It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ralph Barwise, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Ralph left this world on November 21, 2023, at the age of 94, leaving behind a legacy of love, warmth, and enduring memories.
Ralph was born on September 11, 1929, in the picturesque landscapes of Prince Edward Island, Canada. From an early age, he exhibited resilience and a strong work ethic. At the age of 12, he began selling hockey programs for the Montreal Canadiens, a role that sparked his lifelong passion for the hockey team.
Ralph's journey led him to a distinguished 25-year career in the Canadian Armed Forces, serving with honor and dedication as a member of the Royal Canadian Dragoons. His commitment to duty was exemplary, and his service is remembered with gratitude by all who knew him.
A man of great character, Ralph was known for his infectious sense of humor. His laughter resonated in every room, bringing joy to those fortunate enough to share in his company.
At the heart of Ralph's world was his enduring love for his wife of 69 years, Shirley. Their partnership was a beacon of love, resilience, and shared dreams. Together, they weathered life's storms and celebrated its triumphs, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew them.
Ralph's commitment as a father was unwavering, earning him the admiration and declaration of heroism from both of his sons, David, and Rick. Ralph took pride in their accomplishments and cherished the family bonds that grew stronger with each passing year. David's wife, Lisa, and Rick's wife, Bev, became integral parts of the Barwise family, contributing to the warmth and closeness that defined their home.
Within the embrace of Ralph's love, the delight of grandchildren blossomed. David John Barwise and his wife Nichole, as well as Christopher Barwise, who sadly departed in the spring of 2023, and Nichole Barwise (affectionately known as Nickel Pickle) and partner, Pat, infused Ralph's life with laughter and joy. The family continued to grow with the addition of great-grandchildren, Liam, Logan, and Ruby, who brought an extra twinkle to Ralph's eyes.
Ralph often. These memories were like a tapestry woven with the threads of laughter, love, and shared experiences. Family gatherings, whether for holidays or special occasions, were always filled with warmth
Ralph's love for his roots in Prince Edward Island and his family ties in Nova Scotia remained steadfast throughout his life. He often reminisced about the countless cherished moments he had shared with his extended family. His visits to Nova Scotia were treasured occasions, filled with laughter, stories, and the warmth of familial love and a sense of belonging.
As we bid farewell to Ralph, we remember a life well-lived—one marked by valor, laughter, and love. May he rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love of those who went before him, and may we all find solace in the cherished memories we’ve shared.
In lieu of flowers, we kindly requests your thoughtful consideration of contributing blood, a cause that holds special significance for them. Additionally, they would greatly appreciate donations to the Royal Canadian Legion, with a particular emphasis on Legion #10 in Nanaimo. This legion played a meaningful role in Ralph's final days, as veterans visited him on Remembrance Day and the subsequent days, sharing in stories and laughter. Your support for these causes would be sincerely valued.
