Philip Carslake Williams May 26, 1933 to October 1, 2025 92 years old Doctor Philip ‘Phil’ Carslake Williams, passed away the morning of October 1st, 2025. Phil was born in Mountain Ash, Wales, on May 26, 1933. His parents were Winifred Carslake Williams and Joseph John Williams. He was preceded in death by his wife Diane Malley, son, Graham Williams, and daughter, Shan Rees.
Phil, or ‘Doctor Phil’, as he was affectionately known, was a pioneering cereal chemist, an innovator, a world authority in his field, generous with his time, knowledge and the many charities he supported, and most importantly a beloved mentor, colleague, friend, husband, and father.
Among his many International achievements and awards in his over forty years of public service, Phil was honoured with an award from the American Association of Cereal Chemists International that is now known as the Phil Williams Award in Applied Research, the naming of a namesake wheat variety, AC Phil, and most recently in 2021, an induction into the Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame.
Phil is survived by his son and daughter, Christopher (Chris) Williams and Melani Williams; three stepdaughters, Karin Mathias, Cedar Mathias, and Laura Mathias; grandchildren, Thomas (Tom), Arend, Willem, Sally, Griffin, Aya, and Sage. He also leaves behind many dear friends from all over the world who will sadly miss him.
Many thanks to the staff at Nanaimo Seniors Village who took great care with Phil and his family.
