SUTTON, Pamela (Pam) Janine
1963 – 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of Pamela Janine Sutton on February 11, 2025, at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. Surrounded by her loving family, Pam left this world far too soon, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and unwavering devotion to those she cherished.
Pam was born in 1963 in Calgary, Alberta, to Leslie Mason and Sandra Davis. At just six months old, she moved with her family to Vancouver Island, where she spent her childhood immersed in nature. Alongside her sister Jan and later her brother Rob, Pam grew up exploring creeks, rivers, and ocean shores—places that would forever hold a special place in her heart.
Tragedy struck early in Pam’s life when she lost her father at the age of three in a mill accident at Harmac in Nanaimo. Despite this profound loss, she found strength in her family. Pam was a fighter from a young age, overcoming hardships, including suffering a severe head injury from a bicycle accident at 10 years old. Her resilience and determination shaped the strong, spirited woman she became.
Pam attended John Barsby Secondary School, where her vibrant personality and warm heart helped her form lifelong friendships. She had a gift for making people feel special, and to know Pam was to be welcomed into her extended family.
Above all, Pam’s greatest joy was her children. In 1982, she welcomed her son, Ryan, who became the center of her world. In 1990, her daughter, Chelsea, completed their family. Pam was a fiercely devoted mother, pouring her love, strength, and wisdom into her children. In later years, she embraced the role of Nana, cherishing her 11 grandchildren: Zachary, Mariah, Brennen, Alison, Nolan, Jasmine, George, Greysen, Oakley, Peyton, and Montana.
Pam’s love extended beyond her immediate family. She is survived by her son, Ryan McInnes (Cara-Jean); Her daughter, Chelsea Sutton (Blair); her 11 grandchildren; her sister, Janice Davis; her brother, Robert Sutton; her stepbrothers, Sean and Alfie; and her stepsister, Beverly and her many friends and extended family all throughout Vancouver Island. She was predeceased by her beloved parents, Leslie Mason and Sandra Davis.
Pam lived life with a free spirit, finding joy in music, dancing, and the beauty of the ocean, where she felt closest to her late father. She had a deep love for fashion, jewelry, and shoes, and she was rarely seen without her signature painted toenails. No matter the challenge, Pam met life head-on with determination and grace, always finding light in the darkest moments.
Her kindness, warmth, and unwavering love touched so many lives. Pam didn’t just make friends—she made family. To those fortunate enough to know her, thank you for being part of her journey. May we all find comfort in knowing that she is watching over us, forever and always in our hearts.
