It is with unimaginable sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Matthew Brock Suddaby (Matty) on June 13, 2025.
Matthew was born in Nanaimo, B.C., on June 11, 1990, and grew up in Cedar, B.C., where he also attended school.
He was predeceased by his amazing father, Gordon Suddaby, in April 2025, as well as his grandmother, Hazel Suddaby, in 2023. He leaves a huge hole in the hearts of those he leaves behind — his wife Taylor, mother Vicki, and brother Chris, as well as his sister Crystal (Tim); his nephews Tyson, Austin, and Carson; his nieces Madison, Summer, and Layla; and many aunts, uncles, extended family members, and a vast number of close friends.
Growing up, Matty enjoyed playing sports and spending time with his family and friends. In his later years, he loved going to concerts, travelling, watching sunsets, kayaking, camping, and being with those he loved most.
His biggest passion began 11 years ago when he met the love of his life, Taylor. They made incredible memories together — exploring, travelling to Mexico, Cuba, New York, and even living in New Zealand for a year. They loved catching sunsets at Duke Point and spending time with their dogs.
Matty was an amazing brother and best friend to Chris; they spent much of their time experiencing life side by side. He was also a loving son who cared deeply for his parents.
He was the best and most proud uncle. There wasn’t a moment he missed — whether it was watching a lacrosse or volleyball game, playing video games, going on family vacations, waterslide trips, camping, or celebrating holidays — he was always there.
Matty was known by family and friends for his huge smile, contagious laugh, generous heart, and unforgettable dance moves. He was the funniest, goofiest person — the life of the party, always.
He was the most amazing son, husband, brother, uncle, and friend, and he will be missed beyond words. The number of friends he leaves behind is boundless — Matty was truly everyone’s best friend.
To celebrate the love we had for Matty, we will be holding a Celebration of Life at the Cedar Community Hall on Saturday, November 8th, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
