Mary Anne Bergeron (née Martin), age 78, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2025, in Nanaimo, British Columbia.
Born on February 26, 1947, in Woodstock, Ontario, Mary was the daughter of James and Eva Martin. She built a life rooted in dedication and quiet strength, spending over three decades working as an X-ray technician at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. Her long career reflected her commitment to helping others and her steady presence in the lives of patients and colleagues alike.
Mary was known for her gentle demeanour and thoughtful nature. Though many knew her as a shy and quiet woman, those closest to her also knew of her adventurous spirit. In her younger years, she embraced the thrill of riding motorcycles and even took to the skies piloting Cessna planes, experiences that revealed a boldness beneath her reserved exterior.
Outside of work, Mary found joy in simple pleasures. She was an avid reader and a skilled knitter, especially fond of crafting socks with care and precision. Her generous heart extended into the community through her volunteer work with Friends of Haven, where she gave her time to support others with compassion and humility.
Mary’s greatest pride was her family. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Andrea (John), son Chad (Melanie), and grandchildren Violet and Alexander. She also leaves behind her brother Jim (Rose), along with several nieces and nephews who will cherish their memories of time spent together.
She was predeceased by her parents, James and Eva Martin, as well as by her former husband Richard.
A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Haven Society in honour of Mary Bergeron’s memory—a fitting tribute to a woman who quietly gave so much to others.
