Margaret OWENS Obituary

The gathering to honour and recognize Marg will be held at ROYAL  CANADIAN  LEGION ,411 Gorge Road East Victoria.  Sunday April 24, Welcoming people at 1:00pm - formal words at 1:30 and reception following until 3:30 pm.

Our mom died peacefully Feb 10, 2022...  she had with her, her children,  grandchildren and her love and companion of 30 years- Gord.

In the words of Gord – Marg left Melita MB to train as an LPN on Flyn Flon, thus began her many travels, some by car, others by Ocean Liner to Alaska, Hawaii and from Miami Fl through the Panama Canal.  We drove across Canada, down the US Seaboard, through most of the South Eastern States in out motorhome ending up back in Victoria.  We also did several river boat excursions and had a wonderful safari to Africa.  We did a two month European trip to England, Scotland, Hungary ad spent a couple of weeks in Brussels.  Local adventures were twice yearly trips to Parksville’s “Ocean Sands” resort where we just did short visit and basically “ vegged out”.  Marg and I both loved dancing and we became quite suited to each others styles. She was passionate about her Order of Eastern Star and organized many skits and social functions.  She would have been awarded her 60 year pin in October of this year.

Very outgoing and gregarious and made most people at ease very quickly.  She loved to garden and her patio reflected that! We had separate homes, but alternated evenings and cooking efforts. An arrangement that worked for us for over 30 years.

We enjoyed live theatre and music concerts. Her family (especially “Grand”children were top priority. She attended all sports games, dance performances and music productions that were possible for her.

Worked at both hospitals as a “Unit Clerk” and taught Unit Clerk Courses at Camosun College.

I was privileged to have Marg in my life – I miss her

Desire to learn, experience,  enjoy- mom loved travel---- and meeting new people and most of all tried to have fun doing whatever it was.

She is loved and remembered by many, but the “specials” are Gord Shields (friend, love, companion, does not begin to sum up the relationship), Daughter D’ann and family; Andrew, children Parker, Emily (Francesco, Nate, Abigail, Allie, Son Kevin and family; Terrie children Terrin, Damien (Brie), Matt, Leah and Ella. Mary-Ellen, her sister in Saskatchewan – who had a planned trip this summer to come visit - a huge number of nieces, nephews and their children, who somehow always stayed in contact, and I can only presume a massive number of neighbours,  friends and travel mates.
