Margaret Roberta Eddy passed away suddenly on August 23, 2019 at home in Mill Bay, British Columbia. Margaret was born in Edmonton, Alberta on April 13, 1930 to William and Sarah Follis. She was the youngest of five siblings (Lottie, Bill, Flo, and Betty), and one of only two to have been born in Canada as the family had emigrated from Ireland some years before. After the death of her father in 1942, Margaret moved with the family to Vancouver, where her mother opened her home to boarders. It was there that she met her future husband, George Amos Eddy, through a friend of a boarder.
Margaret and Amos married August 5, 1950. They lived various places in Canada and the U.S., but settled in Norman, Oklahoma in 1968 where Amos secured a job teaching at the University of Oklahoma. Margaret enjoyed hosting parties, working part-time at the museum in Norman, studying Native American culture, and being the most amazing friend, mother, and later grandmother and great-grandmother. While she suffered tremendous loss in her lifetime, Margaret remained an incredible source of strength for the rest of her family until the day she died.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Amos (8/5/2000), her eldest son, Mike (5/7/1998), her eldest daughter, Kathleen (7/6/2000), and her youngest son, Dan (12/10/2016). She is survived by her son, Terry (Kerry), of Enderby, BC; her daughter, Jackie (Joe), of Mill Bay, BC; her daughters-in-law, Nancy Eddy and Meredith Eddy, and son-in-law, Hubertus Surm; grandchildren, Michelle (JD), Danika (Chris), Ashley (TJ), Colin (Lisa), Kevin, Taryn, Liam, and Lucas; and her great-grandchildren, Caius, Tevah, Brayden, Noah, Kynzi, and Daniel.
A memorial service will be organized by the family for next summer, when Margaret’s ashes will be combined with those of her late husband and scattered in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada as per their wishes.
