It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved daughter Lindsay Alyssa Matia Thibert, born June 20, 1989.
She was a shining light in our lives and possessed a warmth that touched every soul fortunate enough to cross her path, leaving an indelible mark of kindness and compassion.
Lindsay will be deeply missed by her Mother Teresa (Wayne), Father Gerry, Sons Ayden and O'Shea, her grandmother Sharon, Uncle David (Trish) as well as many other family members and close friends. She was predeceased by her Grandfather Tony who always referred to her as his princess, her Great Grandmother Matia, her great Aunt Filipa and her baby girl Matia.
Lindsay was born in Victoria but moved with family to Nanaimo when she was only 1. She made many friends throughout school, first at Brechin Elementary followed by high school at Woodlands. Maintaining most of the friendships her entire life and making new ones along the way.
After graduation Lindsay started out working in retail. At 21 she gave birth to her beloved first child Ayden. When Ayden was 3 years old, she wanted him to be proud of her and to show him you could be anything you wanted to be.
Although it was a struggle as a single mom, Lindsay returned to school to become a Health Care Aide. She enjoyed working with her patients in the full care facilities and offered them compassion, love and dignity.
Unfortunately in her teen years, Lindsay was stricken with the disease of addiction. This was something she struggled with for the rest of her life and though she had many happy years of sobriety in between, it was a constant battle. Lindsay lit up a room with her smile and sense of humour, even while struggling with her demons. She loved her family deeply and wanted to win the fight for them as much as herself.
In Oct 2022 Lindsay gave birth to twins. A beautiful baby boy O'Shea and a precious baby girl Matia. She glowed with pride for her three children and wanted them to have the best of everything. When she was clean and sober, Lindsay was an amazing mother and doted on her children but the disease in her brain continued to fight for control.
In April 2023 her sweet baby girl Matia, passed in the night from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and Lindsay's life spun out of control. As much as she wanted to stay clean and sober for her two living children, her grief was overwhelming. She sought help in treatment centres a couple of times and did incredible there. Unfortunately with the lack of follow up care in the community, she floundered upon release and relapsed.
Lindsay never gave up hope that she could make her life better. She continued to seek help through counselling and any services that she could access to help in her journey.
On Feb 18, 2025 Lindsay lost her battle with addiction, only days after being told that she was doing so well advocating for herself that she could be a motivational speaker.
Lindsay is so much more then a statistic or just another sad life lost. She was a great heart who deserved a bright future and a gift the world lost and can never replace.
Lindsay always told her friends in recovery how special they were, how deserving they were and how much she wanted for them. If anyone who reads this is suffering from addiction. Please remember Lindsay and Keep fighting. You are worth it. Reach out for help as many times as it takes. The only way to fail at recovery is to quit trying.
I will Love you Forever, I will like you for Always. As long as I'm living, My Baby you'll be.
A private service will be held to Celebrate Lindsay's life on March 16, 2025
