Kenneth Hartley MacKenzie passed away peacefully at home on March 22, 2024, in Ladysmith, BC. Born in Halifax NS, Ken was a son of the late William Hartley and Theresa (Mombourquette) MacKenzie.
Ken graduated from Queen’s University in 1971. He had a successful career as an entrepreneur in the office sales business in Ottawa and was recognized as “Entrepreneur of the Year.” In retirement Ken partnered and branched out into a home renovation business.
A kind and adventurous person, Ken enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid skier, golfer, and boater in the Thousand Islands. He was a long term member of the Camp Fortune ski patrol team. Ken was also a skilled motorcyclist and trainer of advance riding skills, and an active member of several motorcycle clubs in Ottawa and British Columbia. He volunteered at a number of charities and organizations, such as the Children’s Oncology Unit at CHEO, Prostate Cancer, and Ride for Dad.
Survived by: his loving partner Bonnie St Julien; his much loved daughters Natasha MacKenzie and Dr. Heather MacKenzie MD (Scott); grandchildren Ava and Brooklyn; former spouse Janet Craig; brother Robert MacKenzie (Maria); sister Anne Rowlatt (Mike); niece Maya MacKenzie; nephew Aaron Rowlatt (Janelle); step-mother Ina (d’Entremont) MacKenzie; step-brothers Chris Mullington (Kathryn); Kevin Mullington (Janet); step-sister Dr. Janet Mullington (Hans); and their extended families.
Ken will be remembered as a strong community member, for his sense of humour and zest for life.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
