KEITH WYNDLOW

July 27, 1931 - January 19, 2019

The cows have come home, the fire hoses are reeled, the equipment serviced, and the tools put under cover. Surrounded by family, Keith, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed peacefully at home on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at age 87.  

Keith is remembered by his loving wife of 60 years, Irene, daughter, Shannon (Rob), son, Ian (Isabelle), and grandchildren, Keagan, Ella, Benjamin, and Nicolas, and many beloved family members and friends. Keith loved his family, farmed the land, worked the forests, sailed the seas, flew the skies, volunteered his time, stood up for his beliefs, and loved to learn and innovate.  Working at S. Madill Ltd as a mechanic-welder and welder-fabricator supported his hobby of buying and refabricating used agricultural and heavy equipment. Keith and Irene enjoyed travelling to visit family (across Canada and to the US) and the cruise life.

In 1946, at age 14, Keith’s family moved from Gull Lake, AB, to the North Oyster area, farming the original 160-acre mixed-farm. Today, Wyndlow Acres Farm is a bustling mixed-vegetable farm, continuing his growing legacy as part of the farming community.

Keith earned his pilot’s licence as an Air Cadet in 257 Ladysmith Air Cadet Squadron, and was a Charter Member of the Mount Brenton Power and Sail Squadron, Secretary to the Nanaimo-Cedar Farmers’ Institute, and Treasurer of the District A Farmers’ Institute. He served for 29 years (1967-1996) in the North Oyster Volunteer Fire Department, including as Training Officer, Deputy, several terms as Fire Chief, and then as a Director. As a business, “Keith Wyndlow Inc.” later offered training seminars in disaster preparation and management for municipal planners and emergency services personnel in the Pacific Northwest. Keith loved to mentor people and see them succeed. Irene was his devoted partner in all his ventures.

The family thanks Keith’s extensive medical team and the many family and friends who helped Keith and Irene remain at home during his illness. “Little things mean a lot.”

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sat. March 9 from 1-3 pm at the Cedar Community Hall, 2388 Cedar Road. All welcome.
