Joseph "Ted" BENKHE Obituary

Joseph (Ted) Edward Benkhe Oct 29, 1943 - Nov 26, 2025

It is with profound sorrow that we share news of the passing of our dad, Joseph Edward Benkhe - known to those who loved him as “Ted” or “Teddy” - following a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Dad was many things in his life: a loving son, a steadfast big brother, a devoted husband, a gentle father, a doting grandpa, a proud veteran, a man of faith, a groovy musician, and a great friend to many. Yet if we had to choose one word to describe him, it would be protector.

Ted always, without fail, ensured that everyone else in the room was comfortable and cared for first. This defining trait remained with him until his final moments. His last actions were those of comfort, and his last words were “I love you guys.” We know, given the chance, he would have said the same to many of you. But the love of his life, Gailene - and we suspect an incredible divine jam session - was waiting for him Heaven-side, and he could not stay longer.

Ted was predeceased by his beloved wife, Gailene, who went before him in March of this year. He will be missed and forever cherished by his children: his son, Ryan Benkhe, his daughter, Janna Logan, and his son-in-law, Graeme Logan. He is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Isley, Jack, and Nova Logan, as well as by the grandchildren of his heart, Jasmine Taschereau and Freyja Wang. Ted’s memory will also be held dear by his siblings, Barbara (Daniel) Manion, Cathy Romain, and Michael (Cheryl) Benkhe; his sister-in-law, Janice (the late Graham) Prior; and by many beloved nieces and nephews.

Ted leaves a wealth of friendships behind - part of his legacy of kindness and strength. As one of them recently wrote, “Many of us leaned on him, laughed with him, and found comfort in his presence. He was the kind of man who made the room better simply walking into it.”

He truly did.

We love you and miss you, Daddo. We are so lucky you were ours! In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Ted’s honour to the Seawolves Men’s Cancer Pack at https://www.seawolvesmenscancer.ca
