Joseph "Malcolm" FINNIGAN

Joseph “Malcolm” Finnigan, 84, of Gabriola, British Columbia, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on April 2, 1942, in Rogersville, New Brunswick, Malcolm was the son of Patrick and Elizabeth Finnigan and one of eleven children.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Malcolm lived a life defined by hard work, dedication, and unwavering love for his family. He spent more than 55 years as a respected longshoreman in the Lower Mainland, earning the admiration of colleagues and friends alike. Even after retiring in 2004, he rarely slowed down, always finding a project to tackle or an odd job to keep him busy.

To those who knew him best, Malcolm was a steady and dependable presence with a wonderful sense of humor. He taught his children the value of hard work, the importance of family, and the occasional well-timed dad joke. Whether he was enjoying a “Barra-Breeze” by the pool in Mexico, spending time with loved ones, or building and working in his cherished shop on Gabriola Island, he brought laughter, warmth, and a welcoming spirit wherever he went.

Malcolm is lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Jane; his children, Sandi (Phil) and Tracie (Ted); his grandchildren; his great-grandchildren; his three remaining brothers; and his last remaining sister. He was predeceased by his parents and six of his siblings.

Malcolm’s family will be planning a Celebration of Life, with details to be announced in the coming months. Family and friends are warmly invited to attend, share memories, and celebrate a life well lived.

Though he will be deeply missed, Malcolm’s legacy of love, laughter, hard work, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
