John Charles GILPIN

John passed away quietly at his Ladysmith, BC home on June 14, 2022 at the age of 71.

John was a kind man who attracted many friends during his journey.  He was immediately trusted by little children and animals. His keen sense of correctness drew the respect of many and the frustration of others. John firmly believed “if you can’t say something nice, then say nothing at all”. Anyone who found John overly quiet can draw their own conclusions. He shared his friendship willingly and was respectful of boundaries.

John overcame many challenges in life by immersing himself in the Serenity Prayer:

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change

The courage to change the things I can

And the wisdom to know the difference.

Although John has packed his final bag, he is waiting on the other side for his loving wife and travel partner, Susan. He also awaits his cherished friends, his son, brothers and sister and their significant others, many nieces and nephews and their children.

John asked that there be no formal funeral and requested instead that wherever in the world a group of his loved ones gather, they do so joyfully remembering the times shared when John was by their side.

Those wishing to commemorate John, might consider a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or other charity.
