It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Jeffrey Gordon Johnstone on June 4th at the age of 47 in Nanaimo BC. He was a devoted father to Elijah and Elizabeth, whose happiness was his greatest joy. His love for the outdoors was boundless—whether hiking through rugged trails, boating or kayaking, skiing, fishing and hunting, or camping under starlit skies, or simply enjoying the fresh air, nature was his sanctuary. Jeffrey was born in Fredericton and grew up in Riverview, NB. He attended Business Management and Mulitmedia programs at BKM in Moncton, which led him to travels to China and the Philippines where he taught English. His passion for cooking found him again, and was a current student at the Vancouver Island University Culinary Arts Program.
He will be remembered for his huge smile, adventurous spirit, travels around the world, his kindness, and the way he always found time to teach his kids about the beauty of the world around them.
He is survived by his children Elijah and Elizabeth and their mother Aileen. His parents; Tammy and Gordon Johnstone of Eastern Passage, NS; Sister Holly (Dave) from Nanaimo and their children Declan and Maecy. Maternal grandmother Elizabeth Campbell of Fredericton, NB. Several aunts and uncles and cousins from Fredericton and Miramichi, NB, and his extended Filipino family in Manilla. He was predeceased by his cousin James Miller, Grandparents; Ervine and Katherine Johnstone and Donald Campbell. Uncles; D. Scott Campbell, Earl Saunders, and Aunt Joyce Saunders, and in laws; Felix Francisco 111 and Felix Junior.
To honour his love for nature, the family held a Celebration of Life June 14th and would like to thank Jeff’s close friends: Shawn Huntley, Kristen Compart, and Tammy Drury for helping us to prepare his celebration. There will be an East Coast Celebration at a later date.
While nothing can ease the pain of his loss, the love and support from all of his friends and family, has already began our healing. We have been asked by friends and family how they can help, so the family has established a trust fund at GoFundMe for Elijah and Elizabeth. Click HERE for link
