Janice Lyne Coleman
January 19, 1954 - September 29, 2023
Jan was born in Vilna, Alberta. She grew up in Edmonton, and she spent her early adult life raising her children there. She then moved to Vancouver Island where she lived in the Nanaimo area for over 40 years.
Jan made long-lasting friendships through work, at the Cedar market, in the community and at her favourite restaurants – Gina’s and the Milton Street Pub. She loved good conversation, gardening, travel, dinner parties and music. She was passionate about her daily yoga practice and her other great love, reading. Family joked that she could read a book a day.
With a genuine curiosity and interest in others’ wellbeing, Jan had a special gift for connecting with people. She worked in specialized employment services, where she had an innate ability to accept others and work tirelessly on their behalf. She also had an adventurous spirit and spent nearly a decade commercial fishing along the West Coast.
Jan took people into her heart and cared deeply for those she loved, especially her daughter, son, three grandchildren, three siblings, two nephews, two nieces, and her many friends. She will be forever missed.
The family would like to thank the palliative care nurses and Dr. Ric Roe, who was present with his support and friendship throughout her journey.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, November 12th, 3- 5pm at the Nanaimo Yacht Club.
