James “Jim” Penarsky passed away on Saturday, June 24th surrounded by his family at Eden Gardens in Nanaimo. He is survived by his best friend and the love of his life, Janet. Jim and Janet were married for almost 50 years and shared a rare love that was pure, committed and forever lasting in the memories that they created together. Jim lived for his family, particularly his three children: Nick, Candice and Lindsay. In addition to his three children, he was grateful to gain two sons through marriage: Ben and Nick. He was fortunate to share endless memories and laughter with his three grandchildren: Jayde, Hudson and Marlo. These three grandchildren made the last 12 years of his life magical.
Jim was born on June 7th, 1946 in Ladysmith, BC to Nickolas and Isabelle Penarsky. He grew up with four beautiful sisters: Donna, Carol, Myrna and Jeannie.
He went on to have a 40-year plus career as a longshoreman working all over Vancouver Island and the Greater Vancouver area. Jim loved working on the ships, training new employees and being a leader in his field.
Jim was a husband, father, brother, friend, longshoreman, gardener, sports lover, nature seeker, and he was respected by all.
In honour of Jim’s life, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
