In loving memory of Irene Gay - May 8, 1931 - February 19, 2024
Irene Gay, age 92 of Victoria, Sidney and recently Chemainus, BC passed away peacefully on February 19, 2024.
Predeceased by her parents William (Bill) and Evelyn Sherwood, brother William (Bill) Sherwood and wife Muriel, sister-in-law Mora McMinn and precious great-granddaughter Cordelia Lloyd.
Survived by her loving and devoted husband Jerry of 71 years, son Phil (Joy) Lloyd, daughter Lori (Tim) Gay, grandchildren Dallas (Mary) Lloyd, Kassi (Matt) Spate, Dustin (Anne) Lloyd, Shauna (Travis) Toakley, Mark Toakley, Nick (Laura) Oldford and Rhiannon (Cam) Oldford, great grandchildren Greyson, Atticus, Evanthe, Thoren, Odessa, Wellington and Fennec, niece Wendy, nephews Bill (Wendy) and Barry (Sandy).
Irene was born in Cranbrook and had many fond memories and stories of growing up in Lumberton, BC.
She moved to Vancouver where she met Jerry in high school. She married her best friend in 1952 and always said it was “the best decision I ever made”.
They moved to Victoria in 1954. Together they enjoyed many adventures including buying and running an auto-court/motel with her brother Bill and wife Muriel, building houses,building boats and always helping family.
She enjoyed golfing, bowling, travelling and boating. They lived on their boat for 42 years and loved the lifestyle. Enjoyed spending every summer away cruising, meeting all of the people along the way and cherishing the good friends they made.
Irene was a warm, loving, kind person who was devoted to her family and will always be remembered for her quick smile, her laugh, her sense of humour, her amazing heart and her phenomenal pies.
She will be forever missed and always remembered with love.
A casual/informal gathering to honour Irene will be held at Cowichan Bay Maritime Centre Mezzanine (upstairs), 1761 Cowichan Bay Road on April 20, 2024 @ 1:00 pm.
