Greg Wyndlow was a man of integrity, enthusiasm, dedication, determination and a stickler for details. It is with sadness we share his passing on July 17, 2025 shortly before his 94th birthday.
Greg was born July 27, 1931 in North Shields, England. At 10 months old, he and his Mother (Margaret) and twin brother (Keith) arrived at Pier 21 Halifax, Nova Scotia, enroute to join his Father (George) in Bently, Alberta. While in Bently the family grew to include 3 more siblings (Blake, Thetis and Pamela). In 1946 the family moved their Jersey Dairy Herd to North Oyster and settled on approximately 200 acres. Farming expanded to include hay making, potato production and silage. When not working, Greg enjoyed youth activities that included badminton, square dancing with friends and siblings and enjoyed being an original member of the Yellow Point Drama Group. Greg earned his pilots license and wings with the honours and a graduated from Ladysmith High School in 1950. He also carried on to attended a UBC run Youth Training program, YTS in 1953.
After Dairy farming finished, Greg began his career as a heavy duty mechanic with Madill’s Logging Equipment Manufacturing 1968. Greg’s position with Madill’s grew to “in field” Service Technician and included travel for work to such places as Ketchikan Alaska, Washington State, Queen Charlotte Islands, Borneo Indonesia and many locations on Vancouver Island. Greg was 1 of 2 service technicians (Ed Malenouski) to deliver and set up 6 Madill machines in Borneo over a 6 week stay. All the while continuing to farm the family farm with Keith. Greg also served a short time in the North Oyster Volunteer Fire Dept, the North Oyster Rate Payers and moved on to become Area H Director within the the CVRD (Cowichan Valley Regional District). He was also founding President of the North Oyster & Area Historical Society and served his community with great pride.
Upon retirement from Madill’s, at the age of 59 in 1991, Greg embarked on a new career adventure starting his own business Wyndlow Wood Waste Reduction Inc. His wood waste grinder reduced wood products and yard waste into small compostable material which he made into beautiful, black compost (soil enhancer). Greg was meticulous in producing his superior product for avid gardners and landscapers. He also did contract grinding for municipalities and cities on Vancouver Island and several locations on the mainland. Greg retired his grinder in 2014 at the age of 84 years old.
Greg met Mary in 1964 and they married in 1965. Family soon followed with 2 children, Jane and Gord. Family gatherings near or far were always enjoyed and included local boating adventures, camping trips, vacations across Canada, into the UK and USA. In retirement years, Greg and Mary enjoyed a Panama Cruise, several vacations in Hawaii, a trip to the UK and visits with siblings back East.
Greg was never hard to find! Always “at the farm” or “out in the compost field”. His enthusiasm for work was his greatest asset. Greg always returned borrowed items better than he found them and was always able to repair broken items or create great ideas on how to make them better. He never shied away from a challenge and did it smiling!
Greg enjoyed all things outdoors. Yard work was just something he did. He kept the family home and property well groomed, landscaped and watered. Greg and Mary worked as a team to keep the family home well maintained inside and out.
Greg, a child at heart, enjoyed his 5 grand children. Always a push on the tire swing, a pile of leaves to jump in, a ball to kick, a pile of snow piled for sliding down, rides on tractors, fire truck, dump truck or pipe truck used for moving irrigation pipe. Grandpa made helping fun!
Greg is survied by his wife Mary of 59 years, daughter Jane (Ross), son Gord (Liane), grandchildren Samantha, Beth, James, Matthew, Michael. Great grandsons Connor and Hunter and his sister Pamela. As well as numerous further family and friends.
The family would like to sincerely thank Island Pharmacy Duncan for their wonderful caring staff and daily Home Care Medication Program which included daily medication delivery and Blood pressure recording and reporting to his GP.
Vancouver Island Health Home Support for their caring home support workers that enabled Greg to remain at home as long as possible.

Greg will be greatly missed and remembered. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
