It is with great sorrow that we have had to say goodbye to our beautiful mother, Germaine Anne Ovesen on January 14th.
Germaine was born in Vancouver on September 11, 1935. She was an East Vancouver girl and proud of it. In her heart, home was always East Van. Her family was so important to her and her loyalty unending. We all knew she loved us all very much.
She raised 4 kids and has 9 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She is survived by her daughters Michelle, Cherie and Sabrina, daughter-in-law Wendy, sisters Gail Hicks, Linda Potter and her favorite brother-in-law Ron Potter. Germaine is predeceased by her son Paul, uncle George Spalding and parents George and Margaret Casey.
Before her retirement Germaine worked for Pacific Press in the classified ads phone department and was the Union Shop Steward. She became sort of a “den mother” for the people she worked with. Her sense of humor and joie de vivre was admired by everyone.
Germaine was a world traveler, she visited Peru, Mexico, Jamaica, backpacked in Kenya, many countries in Europe, and went to Hawaii often. She loved to garden and created a secret oasis on the patio of her townhouse. Germaine enjoyed cooking and hosted many dinners for her family, there was always room for one more at the table.
We wish to express heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Nanaimo Avenir Memory Care for all the wonderful care and support Germaine received.
A Memorial Service for friends and family will be held at a later date.
