Gerald WOODGER Obituary

WOODGER, Gerald Lorne

August 3, 1924 - May 17, 2022

Dad/Gerry, formerly of Barrie Ontario, sailed away quietly in his sleep on May 17, just shy of his 98th birthday. He had been living in Nanaimo BC to be close to his daughters Cheryl Green (Tony) and Wendy Woodger (Bob Purdy), predeceased by beloved son Glenn (1990), wife Peg (2007) his soul-mate of almost 60 years, and sister Muriel Stobbs (2011).  He was also the treasured father of Terri Beals (Geoff) of Auckland, New Zealand and Grampy/Grandpa to Michael, Tim & Holly Beals and Laurel & Russell Green. The clan continues with great-granddaughters Billie in New Zealand, Ingrid in Oregon and Rose & Emma in Alberta. Extended family includes Susanne Mitchell (Len), Lyn Jones, Lorne Stobbs (Suzanne Kavanaugh), Garth Stobbs (Nora) and of course the Barrie Gang.

A prairie boy raised in a CPR station in Drinkwater, Saskatchewan, Gerry served on a WW2 Corvette in the RCNVR and discovered his love of open water. Settled in Barrie as a dentist for 32 years, he sailed every inch of Lake Simcoe through to Georgian Bay with his family crew. His retirement was long and full of travel with Peg in the Vanagon or overseas to catch up with the kids.  He also discovered wood-turning and model cars, took up the keyboards (he’d played the sax) and joined the Barrie Lawn Bowling Club to put his curling skills to good use.

Stories of Dad’s enthusiasm for sports cars, jazz music, cameras, dogs, long walks, beach bocce and desserts of all kinds will be shared for years to come. His enduring love and care for his family, friends and his patients will be remembered always.

Messages may be left at www.evergreencremationcentre.com with a celebration of life to follow at a later date.
