Frieda GLASS Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Frieda Rosina Glass announce her sudden passing on December 22, 2024 at the age of 86 at her home in Victoria, BC.

She was predeceased by her parents Ed and Katie Schmitt, her brother Arnold and her sister Irene. She is survived by her husband Art of 65 years, her daughter Melanie (Lee), her son Brett (Liana), siblings Jean and Marjorie (Tom), five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Frieda was born in Leader Saskatchewan on November 7, 1938 but made her home in Victoria. Frieda worked for some time in the family grocery store in Leader and continued her education at a business college in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Following her marriage her family moved to Victoria in 1972 where she was employed by Sears Canada for 27 years. Frieda held many positions from stock clerk, working in the cash office and as a Sales Team Lead.

In her retirement Frieda volunteered for Canada Comforts and spent countless hours during the day and evenings completing projects for those less fortunate around the world. Some of the items included handmade quilts, bears in bags and crochet afghan blankets. The Canada Comforts Society has made approximate 72,000 bears in bags and sew over 10,000 dresses that each had a pair of panties in the pocket. Art would often ask her in the evening when she was going to retire, and she would reply “Well I have things to do”. She was a superb hostess who loved to entertain and cook gourmet meals for family and friends. Frieda enjoyed salmon fishing and camping with Art on their boat in Nootka Sound. Frieda was a wonderful, funny and kind person who was an inspiration and role model for many. She will be remembered for her elegance, her high heels and the love she shared with her family and friends.

Frieda did not want a memorial service or a celebration of life and wished to have her ashes spread in the ocean. In lieu of flowers donations to Canada Comforts Society would be appreciated 250-474-1895.
