Fernand and Madeleine LABRIE Obituary

Captain (Ret.) Joseph Fernand Georges Labrie, CD

March 22,1922 – Montmorency, QC – January 25, 2023 – Duncan, BC

Marie Madeleine Pierrette Labrie (nee Lefebvre)

August 27, 1926 – Franklin Centre, QC – September 12, 2023 – Duncan, BC

Walking together as friends for 77 years, 72 celebrated in marriage.  As a family the time has come to say goodbye.

Fernand’s life was defined by service – courage – strength – integrity – wisdom –adventure -discipline – mischievous sense of humour – love of learning – love of teaching – lover of good food – great story teller – stickler for punctuality…but most of all, the love and respect he had for his wife and best friend Madeleine.

Madeleine’s life was defined by courage – strength – integrity – generosity - patience - wisdom – support -  strong faith – discipline – healer – comforter – dedication -  chef extraordinaire – wonderful hostess – dependable…but most of all the love and respect she had for her husband and best friend Fernand,

They were a part of an extraordinary generation, one that made many sacrifices for the freedoms we enjoy today.  Fernand went to war in Europe in 1939-1945 and continued to serve in the Canadian Army until retirement in 1973.  A colourful and varied career in the infantry, intelligence, paratrooper, glider pilot, fixed winged pilot, language instructor, paymaster, auditor, and lastly base comptroller.

Madeleine , Fernand felt was an undecorated hero…the role of a military wife was not an easy one.  Leaving her close knit family behind, and being uprooted every three or so years to a new location, sometimes one where you did not even speak the language. Often times left alone to keep the home fires burning, while navigating new environments.

Fernand was pre-deceased by parents Anita Lavoie and Alphonse Labrie, brother Roland Labrie and grandson Dale Nigel Goble

Madeleine was pre-deceased by the love of her life Fernand, parents Almanda D’amour and Amable Lefebvre, her 6 brothers,4 sisters  and grandson Dale Nigel Goble.

Lovingly remembered by daughter Pierrette and husband Roger Morgan, grand-daughters Jennifer (Tom), Sabrina (Jordy) great- grandchildren Matthew (Angel), Nicolas, Danielle, Aevery, great – great grand children Madeleine, Rowan and much loved nieces and nephews.
