Elizabeth (Joan) Godley passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning of March 29, 2025. Joan was born in Woodstock, England on April 10, 1933, and Immigrated to Canada in 1957, after serving in the Royal Air Force. Joan made her way to Vancouver where she met the love of her life, Martin. Martin and Joan were married in Vancouver on August 29, 1958.
They started a family in Vancouver where Stephen (Mary), and Drew (Tracey) were born; then moved to Nanaimo where Deb (Steve), Brian (Jenny), and Kim were born. Joan was a devoted wife, and loving mother and spent most of her energy raising five children. Mom was very talented in the kitchen and produced many a fine Sunday dinner with the occasional guest appearance by the local parish priest. The Godley children enjoyed home-made bread and cinnamon buns on a regular basis. Joan even taught an evening class in yeast baking at Malaspina College for several years.
When Martin retired in 1986, Martin and Joan became annual snowbirds; making the trek down south pulling their trailer and stopping at various RV Parks in California and Arizona. They made many friends along the way and continued this activity until Martin’s illness and death in February 2004. Martin and Joan were soul mates and Mom is now happily united with her loving husband.
Joan was predeceased by her brothers Ted and Peter; and survived by her sister Margaret. Joan is also survived by her 5 children as well as 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
