Edwin John Anderson was born May 21, 1934 in Edmonton AB and passed away peacefully in Nanaimo BC at the age of 90. He was raised in Bashaw AB by his great-aunt and uncle Elizabeth and John Anderson, who taught him to be proud of his part-Cree heritage. He was the natural son of Hattie Anderson (later Heronemus) and Maurice Hitchcox (per Ancestry DNA). He married his sweetheart Joyce Sandberg in 1957. He is survived by their four children: Carey(Rhonda), Kirk(Shelly), Temple (Mark) and Webb (Kerri), fourteen grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Edwin learned to hunt at a young age, and found work on local farms, before getting started in the sign business. He and his wife ran a successful Signs and Graphics business in Calgary for many years until her death in 1989. Edwin carried on doing similar work until his retirement. He returned to his roots in Bashaw and lived out in the country on his brother-in-law’s farm for many years. Eventually, needing more support due to dementia, he moved in with his son Carey for 2 years, and then to a care home for his last 2 years.
Edwin was pre-deceased by his parents, his wife Joyce, all her siblings and in-laws, as well as his half-sister Myrtle. He is survived by half-sister Norma. He was among the last of his generation and will be missed
