Dr. Ronald Keith Phillips
With profound sadness, the family of Dr. Ronald Keith Phillips announces his peaceful passing on November 30, 2024, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Surrounded by love, Keith left this world with dignity, leaving behind a legacy of care, kindness, and dedication.
Keith was the cherished husband of Arlene (née Parr) for 55 wonderful years. Together, they built a life centered on love and family. He was a devoted father to Blake (Julie) and Kara, and a proud grandfather to Zac, Quin, and Bella Phillips (St. Jacobs, ON), and Gage and Hayden Gerdes (Nanaimo, BC), whose lives were forever brightened by his warmth and wisdom.
He is lovingly remembered by his siblings Susan Schultz (Jack), Brian Phillips (Paula), and Liz DeVries (Ron), as well as his cousins Don King, Helen Jenkins, and Mike King. Keith was predeceased by his parents, Ron and Jackie Phillips, and cousins Pete King and David King.
A dedicated family physician, Keith devoted over four decades to the well-being of his patients and communities. His medical career began in Haida Gwaii (1973–1975), continued in Prince George (1976–1996), and concluded in Nanaimo, where he practiced until his retirement in 2015. Keith’s compassionate care and selfless service left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Beyond his profession, Keith had a profound love for the outdoors. Whether hiking, camping, skiing (on water and snow), or sailing, he found joy and solace in nature, a passion he shared with his family. His loyal canine companions were his constant partners on countless wilderness adventures, enriching his life immeasurably.
Keith’s life was defined by love, generosity, and a steadfast dedication to others. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy will endure in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Kelly Harris and Sandy King for their compassionate support during Keith’s illness.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring of 2025 to honor Keith’s remarkable journey. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Alzheimer Society (https://alzheimer.ca) in his memory.
Dr. Keith Phillips will be remembered not only as a skilled physician but as a man of great humanity, whose life was a testament to love, healing, and connection.
