In memory of
Doug Clark
June 16, 1945- December 12,2024
Douglas (Doug) John Clark of Nanaimo, British Columbia passed
peacefully with his beloved wife Claire by his side on Thursday,
December 12, 2024 in his 79th year.
Born in Edmonton, Alberta and raised in the Stony Plain area, Doug moved to Fawcett with his family at the age of 18. In 1965 Doug moved to Edmonton where he found employment as a floor covering Journeyman. A year later he would find the love of his life, Claire, in Westlock. Married in 1968, their love story spanned over five decades.
In 1974 Doug and Claire purchased their new home in Spruce Grove, Alberta where they lived until retiring to Nanaimo in August 2016. While in Spruce Grove the couple bought property in Flatbush, Alberta where Doug put his hand to building a cabin. Claire and Doug entertained family and friends almost every weekend. The cabin was his sacred place where memories were made to last.
When they weren’t enjoying their cabin, Claire and Doug were exploring other parts of the world! A stroke of luck with Claire winning a trip to New Zealand, brought them to their paradise - a place they would visit often. Taking six months off of work prior to retiring, the couple travelled throughout South- east Asia. More recently, they loved to take cruises and explore Vancouver Island camping in their RV.
In addition to travelling, Doug loved working on the farm as a young man rebuilding tractors and working with his nephews and his father. He always had an affinity for antique cars and was able to purchase his dream car, a 1958 baby blue Chevrolet. He enjoyed participating in an Antique Car Parade in Qualicuum Beach. A lover of nature, Doug called the woods home where he’d take long walks or glide along the lush trails on his bike. He was also an avid gardener. A natural storyteller with a wonderful sense of humour, Doug entertained friends and family with his stories.
Doug was a devoted, loving companion and husband of 55 years to his loving wife Claire. He is predeceased by his parents Bill & Grace Clark, brothers Gordon and Donald Clark and brothers-in-law Jim Bain, Mike Bull and niece Susan Clark. He is survived by his wife Claire, Sisters Jean Bain and Heather Bull, Sister -in -Law Rita Large and Brother- in -Law Leonard Beaver.
Doug will be forever missed and cherished in the hearts of all who knew him.
A celebration of Doug’s life is planned for Summer 2025.
