Donald MOSBY Obituary

Donald Wayne Mosby, age 68 years, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on April 27, 2020 surrounded by love, at NRGH Palliative Care Unit.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Rosemary, his daughters Angie (Martin) Bisset of Nanaimo, Katie (Jay) Canham in England, Laura (Ian) Journey in California, and his seven grandchildren, Gavin and Callie Bisset, Keturah, Eliza and Amelia Canham, and Lennon and Rory Journey. They were all his greatest pride and joy.
Don was born in Port Alberni (“Port Alberni tough”) and as a young boy, moved to Nanaimo with his parents Bob and Bea and sisters Susan and Linda.  In 1974 he was living and working in Banff when he met the love of his life, Rose. The couple moved back to Nanaimo, married in 1977, and soon-after started the family that became the center of his world.

Don was always a car guy. For 18 years he owned and operated Westwood Collision and later transitioned to Harbourview Volkswagen where he learned and excelled at the auto brokerage trade. The final 20 years of his career, every day spent on the road, proved to be his happiest and most fulfilling.

He developed lasting relationships at many Mid and North Island dealerships, where he will be fondly remembered for his genuine kindness, thoughtfulness and honesty.

Don enjoyed travelling, especially road trips down south, and over the last several years he and Rose made many special memories, cruising and  visiting family from England to Maui.
Don will be remembered for his generous spirit, dedication to his family, and loyalty to his friends. He had a great head for numbers, was quick to help a friend in need, and made a mean hummus and garlic dip, batches of which he happily shared with his work-world buds.  He had numerous little expressions, the memory of which will be a source of smiles in the days and years to come. ... “laugh it up, funny boy”...

He will be terribly missed by us all.

His family would like to sincerely thank the Nanaimo Palliative team, from the Home Care nurses to the outstanding Palliative Care unit at NRGH. He received exemplary care every step of the way.

The family would also like to thank Dr. Houghton, Dr Kulla at the BC Cancer clinic, and Dr Otte for her special home visits and support.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Nanaimo Hospital Foundation, Palliative Care Unit. A celebration of Don’s life will be held at a future date.
