Derek Chandler

Born June 25, 1929 Derek died peacefully in Duncan B.C. on May 26 2018.  Derek was predeceased by his wife of 62 years Ann in June 2016 and is survived by his children Fiona (Mark Hardy), Peter (Susan Chandler), Tamsin (Gord  Bland), Sarah (Peter McMullen) 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

 Derek was born in St Leonard’s on  Sea, Sussex,  England and immigrated to Canada as part of the Royal Navy with his new wife in 1953.  With family in tow Derek moved across Canada numerous times with the Canadian Navy until finally settling in the Cowichan Valley in 1981.  Derek’s retirement included his enthusiastic engagement in his gentlemen’s farm, his expert gardening, and many hours spent swimming in his pool. 

His family extends their thanks to those at Dovehill  House seniors residence in Chemainus for their care over the last 2 years,  the Cowichan District nursing staff for their care this past month and his special friend Lu who he enjoyed many hours of companionship over the last 8 months.
