It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Daryl James Arthur Delmotte on May 24th, 2025, at the age of 87. Born in Beckenham, England, Daryl's remarkable journey through life took him across continents, leaving behind an indelible legacy of love, achievement, and adventure.
Daryl was educated at Westminster Boys School and Cambridge University, where he excelled as Head Boy and showcased his talents in cricket and soccer. His time at Magdalene College, Cambridge University was filled with academic achievements and fond memories, including many spirited evenings at Pickerel Pub.
A visionary leader, Daryl's career was marked by his tenure as CEO of Grosvenor, a role he fulfilled with distinction in Canada, the United States and Australia. His professional achievements were paralleled by his deep passion for the ocean. As a devoted sailor, he spent countless days on his boats with Boffy always by his side, participating in thrilling races like the Vic-Maui and exploring the rugged beauty of the BC and Alaska coastlines.
Daryl's love for life extended to the mountains and islands, with cherished years spent at the Whistler cabin and Pender Harbour. Once retired, he traded in his BMW for a Dodge Ram pick-up truck, loaded it up with tools and never looked back! He could build just about anything, and he did. Throughout his life Daryl surrounded himself with youth, whether his sailing crew or his children’s friends, generously sharing his home, games and beer! Sharing his talents was a hallmark of his character and he passed on his love of skiing and being on the water to his grandkids. Daryl's warmth and hospitality brought people together in joy, laughter and fierce competition!
He was a devoted husband to Boffy, a loving father to Penny (Jack), Jamie (Nicky), and Stuart (Nicole), and a cherished "Grumpy" to his grandchildren: Taylor, Emily, Rebecca, Rosie, Grace, Lucy, Imogen, Laine, and Graeme. His unwavering dedication to his family was evident in every shared experience, every puzzle solved together, and every walk with his many beloved dogs by his side.
Daryl's legacy is the loving and connected family he built around him. His resilience and adventurous spirit inspired all who knew him. A private family gathering will take place in July, followed by a celebration of his extraordinary life in September. Details will be shared in due course. He will be deeply missed, yet his memory will live on in his family and in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know and love him.
