Darrell LATTA Obituary

Darrell David Latta
February 14 1969 - March 5 2021
Nicknames: Sparky, D, Pinky
Darrell’s death was sudden. He left us far too soon! He was very loved! What we will always remember.....
Darrell is predeceased by his brother Donald and his best friend Rod Monford.
He leaves behind his wife Jessica, his son Justin (Kayla), his father David, his mother Violet, his sisters Donna (Ron) & Debbie (Steve) as well as his 5 sister/brother in laws, 9 nieces & nephews, cousins, family members, & so very many friends.

Darrell was born in Regina Saskatchewan. He moved to Kelowna BC when he was young & spent the majority of his life living there. This is where he met his wife Jessica and where their son Justin was born. He later moved to Calgary, Alberta where he met new family members and gained many new friends. His latest move was to Vancouver Island, but Kelowna was always home.

Knowing D, he was a man of few words. Quiet scepticism, a long look..... and if he was thinking something you could see it in his eyes. He may not of said it, but you knew. A man of few words doesn’t mean he has nothing to say; it means he may not have the words to say it. Even though he could appear to be sceptical of this world; a pessimist even, he was willing to be pleasantly surprised. If you got to know him past his stubborn nature, you could find the optimist within.
If you worked with Darrell you would know he was good at keeping things together and at keeping things kept up. He had a knack for mechanics and loved to putter. He took pride of ownership and it showed in his work. He was a good team player, and you could count on him.
He loved working on the countless vehicles he or Justin owned. Whether it was fixing them or pimping them out with loud exhaust, lights, and paint. He definitely shared his passion for vehicles with Justin. Like father like son. They were often working on vehicles together. He loved to drive, sometimes hard and fast. His favorite thing to do is rev the engine under overpasses and in tunnels to hear the exhaust rumble. He did a lot of thinking when he drove. His truck was his therapist.
His love was subtle in the services he provided. He would always make sure Jessica had a clean, maintained, gassed up vehicle for work. He’d do the grocery shopping. He really was that crazy man at Walmart at 6am. He enjoyed cooking, and providing a good meal- he made the Best gravy ever! ( Often excited that he had made the Best gravy ever this time!) He had his ways of showing people how much he cared.
When Darrell would tell stories his eyes would light up! He was very animated. He had a fabulous sense of humour, contagious laugh, great smile, and was a bit of a smart ass to say the least. He loved hard, played hard, and was very passionate about the things and people he cared about! He loved camping  and lighting fires. The bigger the better! He loved adventure: Hiking, fishing, 4x4ing,  boating, socializing with family, gardening, drinking games, dancing, listening and singing to 80’s tunes. So many memories!!
He really wanted to take Justin to Las Vegas where he had so many good memories with Jessica. So when the world opens up Jessica will take Justin to Vegas. It’s exactly what Darrell would have wanted. No service will be held at this time. We look forward to a day when we can all gather together with extended family and friends to remember and celebrate the life of our beloved Sparky.
Missing you always..........
