Clifford BLUM Obituary

Clifford Wayne Blum March 28 1950 - August 24 2024

Clifford (Cliff) Wayne Blum was born in Saskatoon, Sk to Dorothy and Herman Blum on March 28,1950. He was the oldest of four children, two sisters Judith and Kathy, and one brother Dan.  He met his lifelong partner, best friend and wife Pamela (Pam) Wall in 1969, while they were in high school.  They dated until they married in 1972. They celebrated their 52nd anniversary on March 25 2024.

They had 3 children Steven (Olivia), Candace (Michael) Roth and Ryan.  Cliff and Pam had seven grandchildren (Beth, Noah, Warren, Nathan, Kari, Joel and Holly).  He loved his grandchildren very much and offered often to babysit the Calgary grandchildren while Pam and Candace went shopping (again).  In 2021 Cliff became a great grandpa to Scarlett, he found her very entertaining and enjoyed her visits.  Cliff always loved family get-togethers (which happened often in Saskatoon) from the time he and Pam started dating and throughout his life.

He grew very close to Pam's family while they dated, so much so that Pam's dad (also Herman) hired him to work in the warehouse with him at Shelly Brothers in 1969. He worked evenings there while he completed high school.  During his long-time employment, the company name, and his job title changed many times.  He worked his way up from a warehouse worker to an office position as a  Buyer for what then became Westfair Foods, then finally Loblaws.  He retired after a total of 36 years working for Loblaws in 2007.  His continued employment meant a transfer from Saskatoon to Calgary in 1993 with his wife and kids.

After his retirement the real adventures began for him and Pam, they shocked the family with their plans to buy a truck, and a 5th wheel to use to travel and live in.  They headed to BC where shortly after he had to be flown to Vancouver for major heart surgery, this pushed back their travel time for a while but he made a good recovery.  They travelled to Vancouver Island a few more times and then made three driving trips with the 5th wheel to Arizona, and California. For the next six years they flew to Mazatlán for part of the winters to enjoy the sun, Cliff loved these trips with Pam.  Cliffs’ meticulous attention to detail and planning really shone when planning for the driving trips.  He continued to ask about going to Mexico until the week before he passed.

Pam and Cliff settled at the 'Swan Lake RV Resort' in 2008 where they purchased a lot and park model shortly after. They had a supportive community of close friends who Cliff asked about often.  Their help whenever Cliff needed hospitalization was appreciated.  Cliff kept his family on their toes, and recovered from many health concerns that most would not have; he was strong and very stubborn.

In 2023, as his health and mobility declined, Cliff and Pam moved to Nanaimo to be closer to their daughter and son-in-law as.  He enjoyed the visits from his kids and their families, the chauffeured drives around the island, and burgers.  Even when his memory was failing him, he always knew when it was Whopper Wednesday at Burger King.  He retained a sense of humour and enjoyed being teased about his antics.

Cliff believed in God and believed that he would be reunited with his family when the time came.

In memory of Cliff, take a trip to Mexico, and enjoy a Whopper on a Wednesday.
