Carson BODEKER Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our much loved brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and best buddy, Carson Bodeker. Carson was born in High River, Alberta and moved to British Columbia with his family in 1947 first settling in on Gabriola Island, and then moved to Nanaimo in 1949. Carson graduated from NDSS in 1964 and then attended Simon Fraser University, the very first year it opened, where he achieved his B.A. in Education. Carson loved to talk about his travels in Europe when he taught English in Portugal and Yokohama, Japan. He met many special friends and had many great memories of his time spent there. When Carson returned from Japan, he gained employment at Blue Strand Wire Rope where he remained until retirement.

Carson was a strong determined man and fought till the very end with all his might. Despite many lifelong health issues, he never let it get in the way of family gatherings, camping, fishing and hunting adventures with his best buddies, and volunteering for Meals on Wheels. Carson could often be found at his garden plot checking up on his speciality potatoes and tomatoes daily. Carson was kind and generous and you always knew where the mystery tomatoes came from if they were left on your doorstep. Carson loved to shop and buy everyone, especially the kids, special and quirky presents which always left us curious as to what would be wrapped in that mysterious cereal box. Carson was very proud of his family and never turned down an opportunity to celebrate and laugh with close friends and family. He especially loved to host his own birthday party where he could celebrate with his most favorite people. Carson was loved dearly by his family and many close friends and will be deeply missed. Carson was the second of three children and is predeceased by his mother Marjorie in 2012 and father Gordon in 1987.Carson is survived by his brother Duane Bodeker(Marliyn) and sister Barb Mowbray, niece’s Kyla, Kaycee(Kevin), Kari(Bill), Ali(Dave) and Dana(Richard) great nephews’ Dylan and Carter and great niece Ava.

A celebration of his life is being planned for September.
