It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Bronwyn South. She passed away peacefully surrounded by love and care on March 25, 2025 at the age of 74.
Bronwyn was born on March 23, 1951 in Regina, Saskatchewan. Bronwyn was the salt of the earth, genuine, kind and selfless. She was a loyal friend to many and touched the lives of all who knew her.
Bronwyn had a fulfilling and rewarding career with the federal government, a path she truly enjoyed. Throughout her career Bronwyn had numerous opportunities for professional growth and satisfaction. Bronwyn held various roles, including employment counselor, immigration and refugee services officer, labor market analyst, and economist. In each of these positions she was a strong advocate for newcomers to Canada, minorities and individuals with physical and mental disabilities.
Upon retiring, Bronwyn moved to Victoria, a place she loved. The move marked a fresh start and the beginning of many new friendships. She became involved in the community; participating in the Newcomers Club, walking groups, mahjong, the Gettin’ Higher Choir, and bridge club, to name a few. If Bronwyn considered you a friend, you were a friend for life.
Bronwyn devoted her life to her family. She raised two daughters by herself with unwavering love, care and dedication. When her daughters had families of their own she often traveled to spend time with grandkids over holidays and help out so her daughters could study and work.
Dearest sisters Fran, Jannie, Anne, and brother Buck, Bronwyn shared a unique and meaningful connection with each of you. The memories you all created together will forever be cherished and held close in your hearts.
She is survived by her daughters, Joanna South and Jacqui de Jong(Simon). Her grandchildren; Jayde, Luke and Stella Perras, Keiran, Sylvia, and Wyatt de Jong. She leaves behind a large circle of family and friends who will always remember her kindness and grace.
In loving memory of a cherished Mom, Grandma, Sister, and Friend. Your love will live on in our hearts forever. Rest in peace.
