Thomas Joseph Lionel CARTIER

April 18, 1946 ~ September 4, 2017 (age 71) 71 Years Old

CARTIER, Thomas Joseph Lionel, TOM
April 18, 1946- September 4, 2017

Tom Cartier died at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital on September 4, 2017 .  Predeceased by his parents, Doris and Lionel Cartier.  Survived by his sister Edith ( Bernie Lapensée) , nieces Cynthia Langlois( Jocko) and Charmaine Kippen ( Ross), grand nephews Eric and Dean Kippen.

Tom was born in Cornwall, Ontario and lived in Hull, Québec until he was 8 years old.  The family moved to Val d'Or, Québec. Tom stayed there until he was about 23 years old.  He moved out West  and worked in the gold mines of Yellowknife as a stope geologist. He came to Ottawa and worked for the Red Cross for many years.  Tom moved to Nanaimo and lived there for over 20 years before his death.

Tom , a diehard Habs fan, was known for his quick wit and totally irreverent sense of humour, no one was spared and nothing was sacred.  He lived life to extremes, neither moderate nor boring described him.  He had fond memories of special times with family at the cottage in the Gatineau.  Tom was generous to a fault. : with family, friends, total strangers in obvious need.

A private Memorial Service took place at The Balmoral on Thursday September 28,  his home for many years.  Tom's remains have been preserved within Living Reef Memorial Canada, an artificial reef, and will be placed on the sea floor at Pipers Lagoon, in the Nanaimo area on October 16, 2017.
