Susan Elaine HAMRE

Susan Elaine Hamre, 62, passed away peacefully on the morning of October 17th, 2018, surrounded by her loving husband and children. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith, and the love and prayers of family, friends, and many supporters carried her through the past 5 months during her valiant fight with cancer. Susan was born on May 9 th, 1956 in North Vancouver, to Arie VanSpronsen and Kathleen VanSpronsen. She enjoyed growing up with her 4 siblings making many fun memories on their farm in Hilliers.

After graduating from Qualicum Secondary School, she went on to graduate from the Practical Nursing program at Malaspina. She then met her soul mate Fred on June 30th, 1978 and they were married on February 16th, 1979. 2 years later they started their family with the birth of their first child Bryce (1981), then Krista (1983), and Bryan (1986). They enjoyed raising their 3 beautiful children in Chemainus. Her children and grandchildren were the light and center of her life. She loved being a mom and a grandma so much, teaching, baking, singing and playing with them. Susan was a beautiful soul with so much nurturing love to share. Known for her great sense of humor and ease in frequent conversation with anyone even complete strangers, she always knew how to make people feel welcome and how to have fun. She was always there to help anyone who needed it and so selflessly gave all of herself to everyone she loved. Susan lived life to the fullest with many travels, adventures and time spent with friends and family. Her beautiful smile, contagious laugh and gift of joy will never be forgotten. Survived by her husband Fred Hamre, children Bryce (Chelsea) Hamre, Krista (Shane) Johnson, Bryan (Megan) Hamre, grandchildren Mason, Sydney, Malcolm, Theodore, Evelyn, parents Arie and Kathleen VanSpronsen, siblings Arien (Jim) Hood, Jeanie (Doyle) Meservia, Anna (Jan) Sjoo, Willem (Helen) VanSpronsen.

A celebration of life will be held at the New Life Baptist Church (1839 Tzouhalem Rd, Duncan, BC) Saturday, November 3rd at 10am.
