Robert (Bob) GALLOWAY Obituary

On Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019, Robert (Bob) Alvin Galloway, loving husband and father passed away peacefully at the age of 88. Bob was born in Nanaimo on March 8, 1931. He lived most of his life in Chemainus (Saltair) with his wife of 56 years, Mary where they raised their 3 children, Debra, Brian and Kevin.

Shortly after high school, Bob began work as an electrician, first at the MacMillan Bloedel Mill in Chemainus, working there for just over 30 years, then off to Tahsis for 5 years after the closure of the Chemainus Mill, and finally finishing up his career at Crofton Pulp Mill, retiring in 1996. Bob was known as a hard worker who was well-respected by his fellow mill workers and always up for a crib game during breaks!

Bob was an avid fisherman, and shared this love with his 2 sons. He spent many days out on the water, whether it be the ocean or the lakes and the excitement of the big catch never wore off. Even in the last year or so, Bob was out on the lake with Kevin and proudly posing for a picture with his trout! After he retired, Bob enjoyed making fishing lures and had quite the business going.

He was a bit of a card shark and loved to play crib with his co-workers and family. He was always up for a game. Bob and Mary had some great times playing bridge and whist with their friends over the years and up until this spring were still having a game of honeymoon whist at happy hour. Bob also eagerly looked forward to his Wednesday crib games with his brother Jim. Neither was a fan of losing! Bob also really enjoyed reading and doing crosswords. There wasn’t much of the library that he hadn’t read!

Bob was a quiet, hard-working, selfless man who enjoyed reminiscing and telling a good story. He always put his family first, looking forward to big family dinners and get togethers. Bob took great pride in all his children, grandchildren and great grandchild, always eager to share how they were doing and their accomplishments. He was devoted to his wife Mary and was her dedicated care-giver during the last couple of years.

Bob will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert and mother Rose. Bob is survived by his wife Mary, sister Maimee (Fred), brother Jim (Ann), children Debra (Todd), Brian (Helen) and Kevin (Robin), 10 grandchildren, Caitlyn, Cameron, Emily, Alexei, Matthew, Ryan, Nathan, Joey, Justin and Andrew and great grandchild (Leo).
