1936-2017
Joan Kathleen Wright was born in Winnipeg Manitoba on February 16, 1936 to Kathrine & Earnest Wright. She was an only child but proved herself to be the driving force of a few! She met what she thought was the love of her life in High School and was engaged to be married at 17! Her father was able to stall her until she turned 19 and at 25 she had her first daughter (Kelly) and at 28, her second daughter (Kathleen). She did her best to create a normal happy family life for her girls but came to realize that “Father knew best” when she was left with nothing, and two young daughters to raise. She rose to the occasion as was her character and created a new life for the three of them. She got a job, found a decent home to rent and started over. For the first time in her life she was able to recognize the “power and strength” within herself and realized that she was capable of more. She worked, scrimped, saved and sacrificed and was able to build a home that anyone would be proud of. She encountered numerous obstacles during and after that process and fought all the way to the Govt level. She was relentless annoying, passionate and victorious! She was fierce in her commitment to her girls, family, friends and any underdog!

In 1980 she met her “Knight in Shining Armour”, Terry Auld and they went on to enjoy the next 37 years of true, honest, sincere love and respect for each other!! Joan & Terry loved to dance, party, travel, spend time with family, party, motorhome camping, crabbing, making wine, did I mention party?

They have a large group of best friends and family that are as lovely and genuine as they are and who have expressed sincerely that their worlds will be less without Joan.
She beamed with pride and joy anytime she could share about her beautiful grandchildren. Her grandson Janzen Lee (Kathleen & Dave), and granddaughters Kristie, Kelsey & Jocelyn Hutchison (Kelly & Gord). All successful adults and anyone who knew her (and anyone who’d listen) knows ALL about them!

Joan was sweet, strong and loved intensely. She was stubborn, highly opinionated, difficult at times, but AMAZING! At her 80th birthday party she was the last one standing at 2am swinging her martini in the air while expressing her disgust with all the younger guests as they went off to bed!

Her family is forever grateful for the opportunity to have one last Party as we gathered in her hospital room and had a birthday party for Katy. There were decorations, cake and of course, wine! Kristie spilled wine (as usual) on her Grams blanket and Joan got a chuckle out of that! It was a heartwarming memory we will all have forever! You’ll always be our strength, our inspiration, our Hero❣️

Mom will be more than missed and forever remembered with love.❤️

“A private celebration of Joan’s life will be held for family and friends in the Spring of 2018. Details will be emailed."
