Henry RUEL

RUEL, Henry – age 84.

 Henry passed way in Duncan, BC on August 15, 2018.  Predeceased by his wife Dorothy, he will be remembered and forever loved by his children; Jeannette (Robert) Humphreys, Roland (Janet) Ruel, and Denise (Jack) Mahichuk, as well as his 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

 Born in Montreal, QC on September 17, 1933, briefly lived in Ontario then moved to Vancouver where he met the love of his life, Dorothy.  They married in 1961 and had 3 children.  Upon retirement, Henry moved to Kennedy Lake and began to play his drums after a 23 year hiatus. He saw a need for a safe hang out space for young people, and opened the Back Door Coffee House in the basement of Living Water Church. There, people of all ages were given a opportunity to play any kind of music that interested them. He gave free drumming lessons with students ranging in ages from 11 to 82 and helped with the band at the local school. He also started the Back Door Blues band and participated in different musical events.

 Henry remained in Princeton until an injury caused his health to decline, eventually moving to Duncan, BC as a resident of Sunridge Place Care Home. There he became friends with both staff and residents.

 A date has yet to be determined for the scattering of Henry's ashes at Kennedy Lake.
